ELVA 2002 "Unwritten Law take unadulterated energy, fireball riffs and melodious guitarnage, and smack them all together into one hell of a power punch that keeps coming at ya in the nicest of ways."

It's been easy to lose interest in punk rock. In recent decades, the genre seems to have developed into a stale, sing-songy mess, catering to high school teens and the Abercrombie & Fitch crowd. Unfortunately, Unwritten Law's newest does little to revive the lost art of punk.
Grade:
C
The band is a refined Blink 182 clone. As a type of music which once prided itself on raw energy and genuine violence, punk should never be "refined." And it should never, EVER be centered around lover's angst.
How can modern bands such as Green Day, Blink 182 or Unwritten Law even claim to be "punk"? The original punk music once sought to convey a message through musical violence and social commentary. Now it has become the radio whore, selling itself out to mainstream pop-rock stations.
Elva certainly gives the listener a wide variety of tunes. Some songs such as "Mean Girl" and "Hellborn" have energy but no real purpose behind them. "Geronimo" and "Rest Of My Life" are lamentations on lost love.
"Actress, model . . ." and "Seein' Red" are songs which should never have been made in the first place, having the depth and energy of a Jewel song.
After listening to Elva, one feels as if they really understand the band members. Basically, they seem to be guys who smoke a lot of pot and have bad luck with women.
The musicians in the band are talented individuals who made a good quality record. It just should not be labeled as "punk."
With the release of Elva next Tuesday, Unwritten Law gives pop-rock fans exactly what they want. Punk rock fans need to stick to their vinyl Sex Pistol LPs, though.
epinions.com gives it 4 out of 5 stars.

Unwritten Law's 1996 debut CD Oz Factor sounds like a lighter weight and much lamer version of Green day's Dookie, having the same powerpop take on skater punk. The "best" songs on the CD are "Denied", "Tell Me Why" and yet another song using superheroes as metaphor in "Superman". There is nothing on this album, however, to distinguish it from the myriad of other punk revivalists. Oz Factor contains no magic, thin vocals, and unmemorable lyrics. Pass. ~ JT Griffith, All Music Guide....... My review. Great cd got alot of great songs like Denied, Supperman, Stop to think, Jonny and Sara.

Battering out adrenalized punk-pop like the ignoble West Coast revivalism of Pennywise and blink-182, Unwritten Law stakes its claim on tolerably catchy riffs and singalong choruses that make Green Day seem like Laurie Anderson futurists. Wade Youman's convulsive drumming keeps things alive only to an extent. Like many in the Southern California area, they probably assume there's an inherent countercultural statement in photocopying old Undertones records or tackling weighty subjects like hating surfers and getting rejected by girls. ~ Dean Carlson, All Music Guide...... My review. A good cd. A true punk cd. Alot of gereat lyrics about life and parents.
Live in AUS... This is a good live cd, if your going to buy a live UL cd get this one. The best quality out of all the live UL cd's. Some come with the ST cd so if you are going to buy the ST, try and find one with the live bonus cd with it.
Live In Hollyweird... This is a very rare cd only 2,000 were sold it's a bootleg so the quility is not so good. A good buy for a hard core UL fan like me.
Live in West Hollywood... another rare cd not good quality but i good buy for a hardcore UL fan. Has a rare track call "I will Refuse" which is a Pailhead cover.
Besides.... My reviews.... Mean girl remix. this song is on the seein red single. A great song nothin like UL though. It's got a good tecno mix to it...... Take me away....... This is also on the seein red single. It's is AKA Jodi. Jodi is Scott's wife. This is a great slower sounding song i like it alot and think it should have been on the Elva cd maybe a single.....Darkside..........This song is on the Up ALl Night Single. A great Hard rock song with awsome lyrics........Baby Baby Demo........... this was on a demo for the Elva cd. Nice song good lyrics probly could have been on the Elva cd also......I AM The Man.......... This song was on a demo for the Elva cd i good song but never full recored and sound crapy but a good song...... Military Men......... A good song not one of my favorites though. It was also on a Elva demo and was never fully recorded.
